In a significant development within Nigeria’s federal executive cabinet, the Honourable Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally resigned from his position. The resignation was confirmed through an official letter signed by the minister and addressed to the President.

In his correspondence, Adelabu expressed profound gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve the nation. He stated that his tenure was a privilege, allowing him to contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The minister’s departure marks a pivotal moment as the government continues to navigate complex challenges, including ensuring efficient debt service under current fiscal constraints and managing critical infrastructure projects.

The primary reason cited for his resignation was to enable him to fully pursue his political ambition. Adelabu explicitly stated his intention to contest for the office of the Governor of Oyo State, noting that the decision would allow him to dedicate his time and resources to that electoral endeavour. This move underscores the dynamic interplay between federal service and state-level political aspirations within the country’s governance landscape.

This cabinet reshuffle occurs amidst a period of other notable national events. Various agencies continue their operational duties, such as when FAAN announces support for airport modernization, or when Nimet forecasts 3-day dust haze, advising the public on health and safety. Furthermore, recent fiscal announcements, like when the FG allocates N1.764 trillion for key sectors, highlight the ongoing work of the federal apparatus. The minister’s resignation is a standalone administrative event, and any narratives suggesting targeted persecution are not supported by the factual contents of his resignation letter, which focused solely on his gubernatorial ambition.

The resignation of Minister Adebayo Adelabu is now effective, and the process for appointing a successor to oversee the critical power portfolio will be awaited from the Presidency.
