President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Nigeria’s Armed Forces and sustaining support for ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-banditry operations. The President offered this assurance during an interfaith breaking of fast event in Abuja, attended by military personnel and senior government officials.

In his address, President Tinubu commended the troops for their profound sacrifices in defending national sovereignty, often while separated from their families. He expressed the nation’s gratitude, stating, “This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sufferings will not be in vain, I assure you.” The President’s remarks came in response to earlier comments by the Chief of Army Staff, with Tinubu affirming that recent government approvals for the military were “well placed.”

Nigeria continues to confront significant security challenges, including a persistent insurgency in the North-east led by groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), alongside widespread banditry in the North-west and North-central regions. The reasons why bandits are able to operate, alongside other threats, have necessitated sustained military engagement. In response, the armed forces have launched multiple task force operations, reporting consistent operational gains.

Highlighting national unity, President Tinubu described Nigeria’s diversity as a source of strength and solidarity, particularly as the military contends with various security threats. He praised the armed forces leadership for their efforts to protect the country from marauders and uphold sovereignty.

The President concluded with a firm pledge that the welfare of soldiers and their families would remain a key priority for his government. This commitment underscores the administration’s focus on bolstering morale within the ranks as Nigeria works to emerge from its economic and security challenges. The event itself, an interfaith gathering, was highlighted by the President as a laudable example of national integration and peace.
