President Tinubu Appoints New Leadership for SHETCO and NEMSA

President Tinubu Announces Key Appointments for SHETCO and NEMSA

In a strategic move to bolster Nigeria’s science and power sectors, President Bola Tinubu has approved new leadership appointments for two critical agencies. According to an official statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dated February 10, 2026, Hon. Magaji Da’u Aliyu has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Sheda Science and Technology Complex in Abuja.

These appointments reflect the administration’s ongoing focus on regulatory institutions within the nation’s science, technology, and power landscape. The Sheda Science and Technology Complex, commonly known as SHETCO, operates as a premier research and development institution under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology. Hon. Aliyu succeeds Professor Paul Chidozie Onyenekwe, who previously served as the agency’s Director-General and CEO.

Concurrently, President Tinubu has appointed Engr. Adesayo Olusegun Michael as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency. This appointment follows the conclusion of Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir’s tenure, which began effective December 31, 2021, and ended on December 31, 2025. Following his departure, leadership was temporarily handed to the agency’s most senior officer pending this permanent appointment.

In addition to the new NEMSA managing director, the President approved the appointment of several board members for the agency. In a separate but related development, the President also nominated Amina Gamawa, representing Bauchi State, and Abdullahi Muktar, representing Kaduna State, as Commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission. These decisions underscore a broader governmental push for effective governance, similar to initiatives seen when the FCCPC begins enforcement of new regulations or in the ongoing discussions on why bandits are a persistent challenge in certain regions. The focus on institutional leadership is as crucial for national development as corporate moves, such as when Flutterwave acquires Mono to expand its fintech capabilities, or local efforts in cities like Warri where peace should be a foundational priority for growth. These appointments mark a new chapter for the agencies involved, aiming to drive innovation and regulatory excellence.
