The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the results for the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates. The data reveals a notable performance trend, with 32.72% of candidates achieving the benchmark of five credits, including the crucial subjects of English Language and Mathematics.

In a statement released on Friday, March 27, 2026, the council detailed the administration of the examination. The tests were held from January 28 to February 14, 2026, across 166 centers in Nigeria. A team of 608 examiners subsequently carried out the marking process in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna.

Candidate participation saw a significant increase, with a total of 10,480 individuals sitting for the examination nationwide. This figure represents an 11.49% rise from the 9,438 candidates recorded in the previous year. Out of this cohort, 3,429 candidates met the five-credit threshold including English and Mathematics, accounting for the 32.72% pass rate. This result continues a positive trajectory, showing an improvement from 26.96% in 2025 and 30.95% in 2024.

The examination body also provided further context on the results. A portion of the results remains pending due to ongoing processing issues. Furthermore, WAEC disclosed that it has withheld the results of 75 candidates, representing 0.72% of the total, over allegations of examination malpractice. The gender breakdown indicated a nearly equal split, with 5,106 male candidates (48.72%) and 5,374 female candidates (51.28%).

While the educational sector analyzes these outcomes, other national conversations continue to unfold, from a Senator Claims Fuel subsidy removal impacts to a popular Tiktoker Peller Hospitalised.
